Black Star Meets Hitman Herns

Black Star and the Hitman:
Our good friend and professional videographer Tony Papa was spotted earlier this year at the MGM grand in Vegas meeting Thomas the Hitman Herns. Tony, feeling spunky while sporting some Black Star gear, decided to test this former Champ’s reaction time. After landing a swift jab to the Hitman’s throat, Tony quickly realized he had made a huge mistake. Get well soon Tony and thanks for the pic!! What happens in Vegas hospitals, stays in Vegas hospitals. LOL jk

West Virginia’s Finest

This is the 3rd year in a row that the Black Star Motorsports team has been invited to take part in and guest judge the final round for the Swimsuit USA bikini contest at Quaker Steak & Lube.  Just letting everyone know we take our Bikini Contest Judging responsibilities very seriously.  We had a blast and all our sponsors were getting some great exposure.

Thanks to my good friend Derek Correll for sending me these pics from a Dealership in North Carolina. Look Mom! I finally made it!

Meet Dallas Carpenter, the winner of the Hidden Trails / Black Star Race Edition Can-Am Commander 1000x!   This raffle could not have been won by a more deserving young man.  Dallas actually had purchased his raffle tickets at the Dirt Track Expo at Hooters back in March.  A few nights before the final drawing, Dallas had wrecked his dirt track race car in a race in Ripley, WV.   After receiving my call about winning the grand prize, he thought his buddies were messing with him.  Classic!  Nothing like winning a wicked 1000cc monster to rip it up in the woods to put a huge smile back on your face.

Congrats Dallas!

Black Star #54 Joins Maya Rally Participants

The 2012 Maya “End of the World” Rally may well live up to its billing as “one of the last great adventures of this century” especially if the pre-Columbian Mesoamerican Mayan calendar is to be believed. This imaginative RV andoverlanding expedition come scavenger hunt – that kicks off in Guanajuato, Mexico on December 12th and wraps up in Bacalar, Mexico on December 20th – finishes one day before the end of the 5,125-year-long cycle of the Maya Long Count calendar. A state of affairs that some doomsday advocates believe will herald the end of the world.“We are putting this rally together for the end of the world” said Maya Rally organizer and Expedition Portal founder, Christian Pelletier. “Initially we wanted to finish in Guatemala at some of the Mayan sites but Guatemala is too crazy,” said Pelletier who subsequently decided to keep the overland rally confined to Mexico where the terrain is just as challenging and the political situation fractionally more stable than its southern neighbor. Twenty of the forty available spots on the rally have already been snapped up and Pelletier believes that the remaining slots – which cost $350 for a car or RV and $175 for a motorcycle – will likely be taken by the end of summer.

The addition of a scavenger hunt to the 2,500 mile overland journey will add a little extra frisson of excitement to an event that has no official route, no support, and few rules. “You pick up points on the way down. One example of a way to get points is to go visit a Mezcal factory (and) grab a bottle of mezcal…If you bring the bottle full you get 50 points but if you bring it empty you get 10 points,” said Christian. Whoever arrives in Bacalar with the most points will be declared the winner.

How you get to Bacalar (by car, SUV, RV, or motorbike) how long you want to take, and where you choose to stay is up to each individual competitor says Christian. There will be dry camping base camps at both Guanajuato and Bacalar along with a suggested list of hotels. “In between we’re going to suggest some places but it will be up to the competitors to decide where they want to stay,” he said.

Although there is a departure party in Guanajuato on the 12th December there’s actually no official start date to the Maya Rally so competitors wishing to steal a march on the other teams can set of earlier if they wish. The route taken is also up to individual competitors though it’s likely that some elements of the scavenger hunt may require that you pass through destinations like Oaxaca.

Nine days of driving and camping during the Maya Rally will come to a close on the shores of Laguna Bacalar on the Yucatan Peninsula. Known by the Maya as the “place surrounded by reeds” the stunning turquoise waters of the lake will provide the perfect backdrop for the grand End of the World party to celebrate the successful completion of your overland expedition and – if the world doesn’t end on the 21st as predicted – participants can head down to Belize with Christian to celebrate Christmas.

Jettribe gear crossing over

This off season Black Star Motorsports decided to take it to the dirt and give UTV racing a go.  While UTV racing and Jet Ski racing are a world apart, both sports share a common thread, speed and competition.  Going into our first UTV race was a huge learning experience for us, but with each event we get better and better.  One thing that I wanted to post about was that the fact that we searched all over for offroad gloves to race in.  Might seem trivial to some, but if you can’t grip the wheel, your not going to do well.  We ended up going back to our Jettribe R-15 Race gloves.  These are the most comfortable and best griping gloves on the market for any sport, hands down.  You may also notice in the pic, I’m wearing my Jettribe Moto Tour Coat.  This jacket handled the cold, wet, muddy conditions with ease.  What can I say, I love my Jettribe gear!  Now, if I can just get Tony at Jettribe to design some other gear for this UTV market…….

This is such an awesome picture from race-dezert.com! Chris Ridgeway rode #181 in The King of the Motos in Johnson Valley CA today. The race was a no holds barred all out blitz. Its been called “a motorcycle survival race;” an invitation only, no entry fees, no rules $10,000, winner take all race consisting of approximately sixty-five miles of high-speed desert racing and ten plus miles of brutal rocks.

Ridgeway’s racing career has spanned many years and many wins including gold medals in the X Games and the eXtremity Games and a 3rd place finish in the Baja 1000. But in 2002 his left leg was amputated below the knee as a result of a riding injury. You’d never know without seeing it though. Ridgeway’s racing career if anything has gotten busier and more successful since the operation. You see him hearing screaming up the boulder covered mountain side.

Black Star to Distribute SPEED Energy!!!

Press Release:

Since last October Black Star Motorsports and SPEED Energy have been working hard to expand the SPEED Energy brand to the state of West Virginia and surrounding areas.  We are happy to announce that Black Star Distributing was created to bring these unique products to market. Its also the area’s exclusive SPEED Energy distributor. “Its very exciting for us to work with the racing legend Robby Gordon. The products are great and the crew at SPEED Energy have bent over backwards to help us get this venture off the ground. I can’t say enough about them”, Trey Frame said.

SPEED Energy Drink is a result of Robby Gordon’s passion for speed, on and off the race track. Over the last nine years, Robby has been associated with leading energy drink companies, Red Bull and Monster Energy. His involvement with these companies fueled his desire to create his own energy drink business. With SPEED Energy, Robby was able to formulate the same energy with a healthy ingredient profile and superior flavor to other energy drinks…without the aftertaste or the medicine like taste.

Stay tuned for more info about Black Star Motorsports’ PWC and UTV race programs promoting SPEED Energy for the 2012 season.

Black Star Taking to the Dirt!

Black Star Taking to the Dirt!
The Team
Three enthusiastic brothers and one friend from along the way make up the race team. Trey and Cameron Frame bring with them the Black Star Racing team and years of wildly successful endeavors in the UWP-IJSBA Watercross National Tour. Stephen Frame has been a critical team-mate during those times as a crew member and team promoter.

Stephen Frame and Andy Moss are the founders of Blackrock SxS and have been OHV enthusiasts for decades. Together their experiences include motocross racing, ATVs, rock crawling, off-road expeditions, and of course side by sides. They are both members of Mountaineer Off-road, Inc. and have been instrumental over the years in planning the clubs annual West Virginia Childrens’ Charities Off Road Jamboree; an event that has contributed countless donations of toys, clothes, and dollars to Secret Santa of West Virginia and other charities.

Through this combination of riders the team will be rich in experience in areas ranging from competitive motorsports competition to recreational riding to event organization and promotion. And after many years of success they are now looking to add to that list with competitive off-road racing.

The Plan
The team will race in the UTVRR and GNCC series throughout 2012 mainly as good practice and shakedown for the vehicles. Neither of these series are desert racing but they are generally in east coast locations and won’t require extensive travel. And besides that, they’re all part of the fun. The season will finale at the famous “BAJA 1000”. So buckle up and fasten your helmets. Jump in and ride along with us as we travel through the stages of building the next big thing for Black Star Racing and Blackrock SxS. It’s going to be one helluva ride.

The Dream

Giddyup!

One year from now the starting gates will open and , Blackrock SxS together with Black Star Racing will begin the legendary journey from Enseneda to La Paz, running the 45th annual Tecate Score International Baja 1000. In actuality the journey has already begun. Over the past couple years planning and daydreaming Blackrock SxS has come into existence with one purpose in mind; to serve and enjoy off-road recreation. What started as a simple business idea has grown to encompass much more. It’s a lifestyle.

From Jeeps and buggies, side by sides and ATVs, to dirtbikes and dual-sports; we live in, play in and love all areas of off-road fun. Now it’s time to seek the ultimate dream; the challenge of keeping it together over 1000 miles of the toughest terrain, and to do it in a SxS vehicle.

The Team

Three enthusiastic brothers and one friend from along the way make up the race team. Trey and Cameron Frame bring with them the Black Star Racing team and years of wildly successful endeavors in the UWP-IJSBA Watercross National Tour. Team accomplishments most recently include: for Trey – a 2011 1st Place title in the N/A (naturally aspirated) Runabout class of the PWC Racing Championship, 2010 5th Place World Ranking in Pro Runabout Open, 2009 1st Place National Ranking in Pro-Am 800 Open; and for Cameron – 2011 2nd Place ranking for N/A Runabout, 2010 1st Place National Ranking in Pro Am Runabout Limited, 2009 2nd Place ranking in Pro Runabout Stock. Stephen Frame has been a critical team mate during those times as a crew member and team promoter.

Through this combination of riders the team will be rich in experience in areas ranging from competitive motorsports competition to recreational riding to event organization and promotion. And after many years of success they are now looking to add to that list with competitive offroad racing.

The Plan

The race team will have two SxS vehicles and four drivers. The Can-Am Commander 1000 has been chosen as the vehicle platform. With the powerful Rotax 1000 engine it is at the top of the class in power and speed. Modifications will be minimal and consist mainly of the adjustments needed to be tech compliant. Seats, harnesses, doors, window nets, lights, tires and wheels are at the top of the list.

The team will race in the UTVRR and GNCC series throughout 2012 mainly as good practice and shakedown for the vehicles. Neither of these series are desert racing but they are generally in east coast locations and won’t require extensive travel. And besides that, they’re all part of the fun.

The next big thing

Yamaha FZR and VXR Riders Win National Titles

From FZWaverunner.com

CHARLESTON, WV – The last checkered flag of the 2011 UWP-IJSBA Watercross National Tour dropped Sunday with Yamaha racers filling up the podium and leaving town with a truck load of national titles.

Highlighting the weekend was multi-time world and national champion Chris MacClugage who led the Yamaha contingent; winning the premier Pro Stock Runabout class aboard his Macc Racing, Dean’s Team Yamaha FZR. Mac dominated the class all summer long and is the man to beat at the IJSBA World Finals in October. Also winning a national title on a Yamaha FZR is Dean’s Team’s Jordan McLean who finished the tour undefeated. McLean rode his Yamaha FZR flawlessly all summer long and also looks tough to beat at the World Finals.

Speaking of undefeated, the Yamaha VXR won the national title in in the new Normally Aspirated class, driven by Yamaha Black Star Racing rider Trey Frame. Brother and teammate Cameron Frame finished second in the class. Although the brothers are tight off the closed course, the two battled all summer long trading wins on their Yamaha VXR and VXS. This is the first year of competition for the Yamaha VXR and VXS.

“We are thrilled with the results this year. Chris on the FZR showed how strong this boat is straight out the box. The Frame brothers started an entirely new racing experience aboard the VXR in the N/A class, and Jordan McLean scored a victory in the Limited class,” said Yamaha product manager and IJSBA Hall of Fame inductee Scott Watkins. “There’s a reason why you are seeing more and more Yamaha’s on the starting line every year.”
